Application instructions
Students applying from Finnish comprehensive schools
Selection is based on the grade point average of theoretical subjects on your final 9th grade report card. The minimum GPA is 8.00. In addition to applying via opintopolku.fi, all applicants will also send an application directly to the school's IB Coordinator.
Students applying from abroad
Our IB programme is intended for local youth and international families residing in South-Eastern Finland. We are a two-campus school, offering the IB Diploma Programme in Imatra and Lappeenranta. Imatra is the administering school. If you wish to apply to the South Karelia IB World School, please first contact the IB Coordinator, Sanna Prior (sanna.prior(@)edu.imatra.fi), so we can verify whether you meet the admission criteria.
If the criteria are met, you may proceed to fill out the application form available on our website after making contact. Please note that we only consider applications from students who will have a legal guardian living with them in the South Karelia region.
In addition to applying through our website, applicants are to send most recent study certificate from their current school to the IB Coordinator.
We will organize a second entrance examination on August 5th at 10:00 AM at Imatra Campus for discretionary applicants who were unable to attend the April entrance exams, or who have moved to the area after the April exam and otherwise meet the admission criteria.
The entrance examination will be arranged for selected applicants who receive an individual invitation.
